We are proud to be the first and only accredited Montessori school on the Outschool platform, featuring certified teachers who bring their expertise from our brick-and-mortar school located in Ontario, Canada.

In the grade 2 Reading Strategies class, students will delve into essential skills that enhance their ability to comprehend and engage with various types of texts. The class focuses on equipping students with essential skills to comprehend, analyze, and engage with a variety of texts effectively. Through structured lessons, interactive activities, and personalized support, students will develop critical reading skills that enhance their overall literacy proficiency. Topics covered include: 

- Sequencing: Understanding and identifying the order of events in stories and informational texts, enabling them to comprehend timelines, cause-and-effect relationships, and narrative structure.

- Topic and Purpose: Identifying the main topic or theme of texts and understanding the author's purpose for writing, which helps students grasp the ideas and intentions conveyed in the text.

- Inference and Analysis: Learning to draw conclusions, make predictions, and analyze information from the text using evidence and context clues. This skill enhances critical thinking and deepens comprehension.

- Literary and Informational Texts: Differentiating between different genres such as fiction (literary texts) and nonfiction (informational texts), understanding their unique features, purposes, and structures.


Class structure:

The class structure will include an introduction with a brief overview of the reading strategy and its importance, followed by mini-lessons that provide focused instruction on each strategy using examples from different texts. Students will engage in guided practice through group discussions, guided reading, and worksheets to apply the strategy in context. Independent practice will involve assigning reading tasks where students apply the learned strategies independently. The class will conclude with a closure segment summarizing key points and discussing insights gained from applying the strategy.

My teaching methods will include interactive discussions where I will encourage to share their thoughts and interpretations of texts, demonstrate how to use each strategy through think-alouds and examples, and engage students in activities like role-playing, creating timelines, or analyzing texts together.

My teaching style is interactive and supportive as I will prompt discussions and activities to encourage student participation and exploration and provide positive reinforcement to boost confidence and motivation in reading.

Students will interact actively with me through class discussions, group activities, and through conversations when working on a task.

Students will develop skills in inference and analysis, allowing them to draw conclusions from the text. They will learn to identify key details and evaluate the author's purpose and point of view in a text.

Parental guidance and support may sometimes be required to supervise young learners. We may need help using various stationary items (i.e., scissors, stapler etc.), or preparing materials before class.

A weekly material list will be provided to you prior to class, in preparation for the following week of classes. Learners are responsible for having the listed materials on hand and printed worksheets ready. If learners are missing a material, alternative suggestions can be provided. Classes will typically require commonly found household items or stationary such as: pencil, eraser, highlighter, scissors, stapler, glue etc.

Welcome to My First Montessori School Online ("MFMS Online"), our Virtual Montessori School and pioneering educational institution that is reshaping the landscape of learning for children across the globe.
