Homework may consist of some or all the following activities: • Reading Short Stories (Students may be asked to record themselves reading these stories to be sent to the instructor) • Composing sentences, short stories, or paragraphs based on presented vocabulary and grammar skills • Completing exercises in the workbooks • Watching video clips recorded by the instructor • Recording video clips or audio clips of spoken Hebrew (This may be for the instructor to view or other classmates) All homework is assigned to review and develop skills presented in class and to assist students in gaining additional fluency in reading comprehension, writing, and conversational skills.評估
Students will be assessed informally during the course through the completion of in-class work and assigned outside work. Grades are not automatically provided but parents or students can request a formal percentage, letter, or pass/fail grade. Grade requests should be done prior to the completion of the course.等級

REQUIRED PRE-REQUISITE: This course is an early intermediate course and assumes students have completed Modern Hebrew Language 2 and achieved a reasonable level of proficiency. Proficiency will be determined based on performance in previous courses. New students can request an evaluation for proficiency by contacting the instructor. Shalom! This course is a continuation of the Modern Hebrew Language series. Modern Hebrew Language 3 continues our adventures with Tamar as we learn more about her life, friends, and hobbies. Students will review previously learned vocabulary and grammar skills while being introduced to new ones. Specific topics include: • Additional nouns • Approximately 20 new verbs • Further practice conjugating verbs in all four forms (masculine singular, feminine singular, masculine plural, and feminine plural) • Infinitive Verbs • Time Words (Sometimes, Always, Now) • Times of Day • Possessive Pronouns in Singular Students will also continue reviewing and building reading comprehension, writing, and conversational skills. Comprehension and conversational skills will be a focus for this class. Please note that while this class is not entirely immersive, there is an increase in Hebrew used by the instructor and expected from the students. Content will continue to be taught in English, but with additional Hebrew usages intended to improve the student’s fluency in the target language. Additional translations and clarifications will be made in English as needed. Below is an estimated breakdown of the main concepts taught each week. All classes will include Hebrew comprehension through speaking and understanding, working towards building a stronger vocabulary. Most/All classes will include reading practice (comprehension included) and writing practice. Please be aware that each section is tailored to fit that particular group of students and their prior knowledge so some concepts may be completed faster or slower. All content will be covered by the end of the course. Week 1 - Introduction, Rules, Review Week 2 - The Verbs: To Play a Game, Play an Instrument, Take a Picture, Can, Infinitive Verbs Week 3 - Concepts: Interesting and The Most Week 4 - Concepts: Always and Sometimes, Possessive Pronouns Week 5 - Concepts: When Week 6 - Pronouns, Concepts: A Lot and A Little Week 7 - Possessive Pronouns, Verb: Know Week 8 - Concepts: Pets Verb: Wants Week 9 - Concepts: Friends Week 10 - Verb: Need, Concepts: People from Other Places Week 11 - Verb: To Visit, Concepts: Something Breaking Week 12 - Visiting, Legend of Rabbi Akiva Week 13 - Review Story and Vocabulary Week 14 - Verb Conjugation Skills, Possessive Pronouns Week 15 - Question Words, Times of Day Week 16 - General Review, Hebrew Comprehension, Class Wrap-Up *This class assumes a specific level of proficiency in skills involving Hebrew reading, writing, and conversation. Determinations are made based on previous classes with the instructor and/or formal evaluation. Students enrolled who do not meet the criteria will be withdrawn for a full refund. *There will be homework assigned for this class. It is assumed that all students have completed the homework as assigned. *This is a foreign language class. While students do not have to have their camera turned on for this course, it is expected that they will be participating orally as this class is heavily conversation-based. *All classes will begin on time as long as there is at least one learner in the classroom. If 10 minutes after the start time there are no students in the class the instructor will exit the classroom. This class cannot be taught with no students, so no recordings will be available for classes with zero attendance.

This course, along with all my Hebrew courses, is taught from a secular and academic perspective. Parents should note that it is extremely difficult to find materials for teaching Modern Hebrew to elementary and middle school-aged students that does not include some content related to Jewish history, culture, and religious practices as well as references to the history, culture, and geography of the nation of Israel (the only country where Modern Hebrew is the official language).
The specific textbook includes a comic story associated with the popular Jewish historical figure Rabbi Akiva. Rabbi Akiva was a Jewish scholar and philosopher who lived during the first and second centuries. The specific legend told in our textbook is about Rabbi Akiva encouraging people to visit the sick and is not religious. There is a mention of the fact that what Rabbi Akiva and his students are studying is the Torah (Pentateuch), but there is no specific religious content in the story or its accompanying lessons. Parents with concerns or questions can feel free to reach out to the instructor.
Parents should be aware that Hebrew is a gendered language and that there is no accepted terminology in use for individuals who prefer they/them pronouns. In Hebrew, They/Them has two forms: one for a group of men or a mixed-gendered group and one for a group of women. Additionally, using plural terms for one individual in a language that is relatively new for students may lead to additional confusion. Traditionally, when gender is unknown (such as asking, “Who lives in the house?”) it defaults to masculine singular. Students who are interested in taking this class or parents of those students who prefer they/them pronouns should reach out to the instructor to determine what they would prefer to use in the context of this class.

The total cost for both books is approximately $16.00 plus tax and shipping. Please note that it is expected that students will have these assignments printed out for the appropriate lesson.
