There are many things we've been told about women in history. Marie Antoinette was a spoiled princess. Mary Tudor was a crazed tyrant. What if there were more to their stories? What is being left unsaid? In this course, we'll explore the legacies of these infamous women and decide for ourselves if they deserve their bad reputations. We'll also look at some of the women you think you know but through a new lens. Each class will begin with learners discussing what they already know about the...
Learners will be able to discuss the historical context surrounding a figure. Learners will be able to debate respectfully with their peers. Learners will be able to use facts and evidence to support a conclusion.
I graduated in 2015 from Brigham Young University with a degree in English Education. I took many history courses as a part of my major and have always studied and been interested in history. I have taught several successful Outschool classes on historical figures such as the Tudor and Romanov families.
Learners will need to access Nearpod during class. This can be done in a separate tab on a computer or with a second device such as a tablet or phone.

Many of the women we will discuss were directly involved in violent historical events. For example, Marie Antoinette was tortured and eventually beheaded. Mary Tudor ordered many people to be burned at the stake. Catherine the Great had multiple extra-marital affairs and the paternity of her children is questioned. Countess Bathory is infamous for murdering young women and bathing in their blood (we will debunk these rumors). These events will be discussed, but not in any graphic nature.
