- Students will learn to create a structured paragraph as well as a full expository essay.
- Students will learn to analyze text, think critically, and discuss text both verbally and through writing.
I am a certified educator who has been teaching middle school Reading and Language Arts for more than 20 years. I specialize in reading skills/strategies, teaching writing, and working with students at their own individual levels.

Specific assignment guidelines and required reading will be posted in the classroom weekly. Students are required to submit their work to the classroom/privately to me for detailed, individualized feedback (provided within 3-5 days).Assessment

Learners will need a copy of the novel, The Mark of the Dragonfly by Jaleigh Johnson. They will also need a notebook and pencil for this course. Access to a printer is recommended, as there will be handouts and graphic organizers to print.
The main characters are kidnapped by men who are described as "slave-traders." They are frequently in mild danger as the story progresses. There are several "battles" involving guns and crossbows, and which briefly mention blood. There is nothing very graphic or gory. The main characters hold hands once, and the boy kisses the girl on the cheek toward the end of the story.
