In this 3 week course, students will master the parts of a microscope, learn how to use them like a pro, prepare a microscope slide, compare and contrast specimens under different magnifications, and conduct an investigation to answer a question of their own using their observations. Students will need a microscope, microscope slides, cover slips, water, water dropper(pipette or medicine dropper), paper towels, pencil, paper, and access to sample specimens from around the house such as leafs, onions, sand, dirt, pond water, apple skin, fur, hair, wool, etc. They may also need assistance cutting a thin layer of their specimen using a kitchen knife under proper supervision.
