This class aims to teach a variety of writing styles while providing strategies for creating and developing written work for each genre studied. A new genre of writing will be explored each week of the course. Through exploring popular and relevant literature, students will learn to “think like a writer.” Analyzing common themes and devices used in various forms of text, students will explore different genres and create writing samples relating to the genre of the day. » Students will improve their understanding of genre through studying and analyzing relevant samples. » Students will craft five various writing samples incorporating elements of genre and literary devices. » Students will learn and apply a variety of writing strategies set to enhance flow and strengthen voice. » Students will use a positive peer review model and learn to build confidence in sharing, receiving feedback upon, and celebrating work.
Students will need to print the course workbook (found in class announcements) and/or bring a fresh notebook to the course. A writing utensil (pencil suggested) is also required.
