In this class students will learn the digraph sounds "ck, ph, th, wh" through familiar songs such as "Five Little Ducks Went Out to Play." During class students will be introduced to the concept of a digraph - a combination of two letters representing one sound, as in "ph" and "ey." Students will become familiar with the four previously mentioned digraphs through singing, dancing, writing and reading new words that contain these sounds.
My class is structured with an opening introduction for everyone and then students will be given an overview of the lesson before moving into the activities. I plan to teach by encouraging children to sing along with me, using physical props to illustrate words that contain the digraphs and asking children to write words and show them to me during class. My teaching style is very enthusiastic and energetic. I will get learners to interact with me by holding up a pretend microphone to encourage singing, using rewards and props. Students will have a high level of interaction with each other and the teacher in this lesson. Students need no prior knowledge as this is a beginners reading class.
