Students will learn how to read a mathematical word problem to know what operation: addition or subtraction, and solve it. Children will use a variety of strategies to deconstruct a word problem to be able to solve a word problem accurately. Children will show their work both in comprehending the word problem and solving the math computation. Children will be encouraged to write a math equation or number sentence to match their work. Children will be reminded to double check their work for accuracy. 

This topic was requested. Additionally, mathematical word problems are something that children struggle with in elementary school through middle school. I would like to provide some strategies at an early school age to help young learners.
