🤔💭🔢✖️🧮 Math Instruction:

Students with dyscalculia have difficulty in the following areas:

Have difficulty recognizing numbers
Be delayed in learning to count
Problems with connecting numerical symbols (5) with their corresponding words (five)
Have difficulty recognizing patterns and placing things in order
Lose track when counting
Need to use visual aids — like fingers — to help count

I have devised a program based on my training and experience that will help students progress despite their learning difficulties. I use a range of evidence-based methods such as touch points, visuals and imagery, fact family drills and concepts, estimation to guide reasoning, mathematical language, and world problem comprehension. I also create custom presentations and games that will keep students engaged while learning.

What makes this class different?

I have worked with hundreds of students over the years, and I understand that students who are having trouble with mathematical concepts need more individualized support. When designing this class, I thought about what would make an online learning environment safe, supportive, and productive. Large classes for students who have a history of difficulty in math have limited effectiveness due to anxiety, learned helplessness, a lack of self-confidence, and shyness. Students are able to be passive learners more easily and often get left behind. That is why I designed this class to have a maximum of 7 students so that I can make sure each student gets a chance to contribute to their learning experiences.
