課堂經歷
At last count I had taught over 700 young bakers since joining Outschool in 2018. I am always blown away by the talent the bring to class, the hard work they put into learning new concepts, and the growth they achieve throughout our time together. Many learners branch out into selling cakes and this course is designed to help them as they take that leap. This class will cover everything I wish I had known when I began selling baked goods for a living many years ago. I’ll share every tip and best practice up my sleeve and provide learners with actionable items that they can begin using immediately to market and sell their amazing cakes. Each week I’ll deliver a series of detailed videos to learners in the virtual classroom. Class participants may complete them at any time that works well for them. That’s the beauty of a flex class. All of our interaction will take place in the virtual classroom. Class members will be provided with demonstrations and instructions for tasks we complete each week They will be asked to submit examples of their work for feedback. In addition to this, learners are always free to ask questions, share ideas, and post pictures of what they’ve created during our time together. What can you expect from me? I answer all messages received before I head to bed on the very same day. I guarantee timely communication. Here’s what we’ll cover in our time together --- Week One: Leaners should submit a sample menu in the classroom for feedback and discussion. - Choosing a business name - Creating a logo - Designing menus - Choosing signature fonts/colors - Workspace cleanliness/hygiene guidelines - Cottage law introduction Week Two: Learners should choose a cake and apply it to the spreadsheet. Submit both the cake image and/or recipe in the classroom along with the pricing spreadsheet for that project. - How to price cakes – a detailed spreadsheet will be provided with a lesson on how to use it to automatically generate prices for every order. It is a life-saver! - Cake size guidelines - Guiding customers in choosing a design Week Three: Learners should submit a sample photograph of a recent project for feedback and classroom discussion. - Photographing your work - How to make inexpensive, but professional looking backgrounds - Photoshoot demonstration and editing Week Four: Learners should submit text/images for three sample social media posts to engage potential customers. - Leveraging social media - Examples of posts to generate engagement Here’s what is *not* covered in this class. - Tax laws or how to form an LLC - I am not an expert on this and it can vary greatly by state. I sought assistance on these issues when I sold cakes professionally and I would suggest any bakers seeking to go this route do the same. There are other classes on Outschool that will likely cover this aspect of business development. - State-by-state food/cottage laws - I will touch on state laws and provide an example of how to search for your state laws. I will briefly walk learners through the guidelines for my home state as an example. However, requirements vary widely by state, so learners would be best to seek that information from a local source or by contacting the local health department.

超過 4 週課 1:
Branding and More
In this lesson, we'll discuss naming your business, developing a logo, visual branding, and creating a menu.
課 2:
Price and Size
Many adult bakers struggle to price their work. In reality, it is quite simple once you know the formula. We'll review that in this lesson. We'll also discuss cake size in relation to number of servings.
課 3:
Photography
It is true that people eat with their eyes. We must photograph our work in a way that people's mouths begin to water. We'll cover ways to do that this week with minimal supplies and nothing more than a cell phone camera.
課 4:
Promotion
We'll discuss methods for promoting your business both in-person and online to gain more customers.

供應清單
In the third week of class I'll share some ideas for how to make homemade photo backdrops. After watching the lesson, learners may want to take a trip to the craft store for some basic supplies that suit their style. Material costs shouldn't exceed $15 and this isn't a mandatory exercise.

I am a professional baker who has been teaching confectionery arts on Outschool for three years now. I have loved baking since I was the age of most of my learners! In fact, in class you’ll see my beloved KitchenAid stand mixer that was my 12th birthday present and is still a total workhorse to this day!
When my kids were young I decided to take some cake decorating classes to ensure my kids always had show-stopping cakes at their parties. Over time it blossomed into a career beyond my wildest dreams. I operated a bakery for a number of years and eventually transitioned into this ultra-fulfilling role as a confectionery arts teacher.
Oftentimes learners in my baking classes are so awesome at what they do that they start getting requests for orders. I was always happy to help them one-on-one when they had questions about pricing, serving sizes, etc., but realized a comprehensive course on how to market and sell their goods would be so much more helpful to them. I compiled everything that made my business a success and will freely share it with them in our month together.
I am so excited for this opportunity to share this experience with your learner.
