Students will learn about HOCs (Higher Order Concerns) and LOCs (Lower Order Concerns) in writing. They'll do so by being introduced to two metaphors that equate writing to building a house or baking a cake. Through these metaphors, they will gain a way to manage the writing process and set priorities while writing. Some of the major lessons in this class include the following: - It's okay to make a mess when you write. - Writing requires multiple skill sets. - Don't judge your first...
A PowerPoint with instructor voiceover will be provided to watch before the class meets. Colorful handouts with the steps of the writing process and tips for approaching them using the metaphors from the class will be provided to maintain for future reference.
