Once the course beings, parents will be given a new unit every week which will be posted on Monday mornings (EST). Each unit post includes the learning goals...

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts education and am certified by the state of Indiana to teach art for grades PK-12. To obtain my degree, I have also taken several art history courses which did focus on the art movements, cultures, and artists I will be teaching in this course including those of art during the abolition era. In addition, to obtain my teaching license, I had to take two tests, one on teaching methods and one of art history. The test on art history did include each of the cultures/ movements present in this course. I have continued my studies and professional development individually as a teacher through collaboration with music teachers and observing and learning from other art teachers to gain even more knowledge of the art history subjects taught in this course including the art of the abolition era. I have taught versions of each of these projects in public, private, and charter school; and this course is designed to meet the standards/ requirements for art in most U.S. states.

When showing images from art history, no nudity or graphic images will be shown, but the cultural practices and religious beliefs may be discussed. These cultural practices and religious beliefs will be presented from an unbiased viewpoint to show how and why the art was made. The purpose of each type of art will be discussed at age appropriate levels. Please note for the Chinaware project, I do mention that porcelain was once made with ground bone.
Students will be able to complete Kahoots to review the art history content, but they will only need to click on the links to participate and won't need an account.
