This class will be fun, creative, and interactive. Learners will understand and use different parts of speech (nouns, compound nouns, adjectives, adverbs) and figurative language (puns, hyperbole) to write and tell their own jokes, as well as writing short, funny stories. The class will be a mix of games and activities and discussions that will get learners to focus on how they use language, and they how they can make any writing funny. - To understand that some words sound the same but have different meanings (homophones) and to create jokes (puns) using these words - To expand nouns to enhance written and spoken language. - To effectively use question words - To recognize language patterns and conversation conventions - To understand the use of questions and answers to create jokes - To understand and explain how to use compound words - To write clearly and concisely for comic effect - To use hyperbole to create tall tales - To put all of these concepts to use by writing a short, funny story
Learners should have a pen/pencil and some paper or a notebook to write on.
