This on going class is to expose students to the LGBTQ+ community through story. Each class the students will be read to from a different book that shows LGBTQ+ people and families. In most children's books, learners are exposed to heterosexual couples and families, nothing wrong with that, but it is important that students are purposefully exposed to LGBTQ+. By being read stories where the families and people who are members of the LGBTQ+ community are represented, we are showing children that this is also normal. Depending on the book and age group there will be some light discussion of the story. This class is good for students who are members of this community or related to members of this community to give them representation as well as students who have no connection to this community to introduce them to the community. With this class I hope to help teach a community that will be more understanding, confident, kind and loving.

I have been working with children for the past 15 years. I have been a babysitter, camp counselor, and teacher. I have worked with all ages and backgrounds. I believe children learn best, when they are interested in the topic and love that Outschool gives students that opportunity.
