Reading Digraphs and Blends With Mrs. Rose: In this class, students will read one and two syllable words with beginning and ending digraphs (sh, ch, th, wh) and blends (s-blends, r-blends, l-blends). Using letter symbol cues and pictures, students will practice the sounds, how to blend, and read words with digraphs and blends. A worksheet is provided for the student to support the activity in class, for word and hand writing practice. Students will be exposed to oral language practice for phonemic awareness (recognition and play with sounds), fine motor skills to increase writing ability, and phonics skills to read words. ***Students must know all letters, sounds, and decoding words to be successful in this class.*** ***In order for me to assist your child while reading, I do require cameras to be turned on during class. I need to be able to see their mouths and how they are forming the sounds in words.*** Week 1: Read and build /ch/ words Writing /ch/ words Week 2: Read and build /sh/ words Writing /sh/ words Week 3: Read and build /th/ Writing /th/ Week 4: Read and build /wh/ Writing /wh/ words Week 5: Read and build words with the /s/ blends (sm, sn, sk, sc, sp, st) Writing the /s/ blend words Week 6: Read and build words with the /r/ blends (br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr) Writing the /r/ blend words Week 7: Read and build words with the ending blends (-st, -sk, -sp, -nd, -nt, nk) Writing the ending blends Week 8: Read and build words with the ending blends (-mp, -ng, -ft, -lt, ld) Writing the ending blends

In this class, students will be able to read words with digraphs /sh/, /ch/, /th/, and /wh/. Students will also be able to read beginning and ending blends. Using letter symbol cues and pictures, students will practice the sounds, how to blend, and read words with both beginning and ending digraphs. Students will also participate in phonemic awareness exercises to continue to strengthen their reading skills.

Welcome! I am a Florida Certified Educator. I have been a primary teacher for 20 years. I taught PreK, Kindergarten, and First Grade. I have my Master's Degree in Brain Based Teaching with a Focus on Literacy. (This program was based on what is now known as the Science of Reading). I am currently continuing my education with the Science of Reading courses. I have also completed the Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator Level training. I love all aspects of teaching reading and helping students fall in love with and learn to read. I truly believe in hands-on learning, using a variety of teaching styles to meet all students where they are. What works for one student, may not work for another. I am always ready to make changes to to help each and every student learn. I am married with an inquisitive 9 year old daughter. She truly keeps me on my toes as I watch her grow and learn. We also have a 5 year old Boxer-Lab pup who completes our family.
