In this ongoing course, we will learn about a range of academic writing styles including reports, articles and essays. Suitable for ESL learners. Essay writing is an important skill essential for academic excellence and personality development. Learners with good essay writing skills are able to develop expression and creativity through language and ideas. This class will give time to develop ideas, and practice essay writing, whilst also providing feedback each week. What themes will we write about? Week of 30/9/24 - Using Evidence - Analysing and Writing Topic Sentences Week of 7/10/24 - Using Evidence - Understanding the Main Ideas in Lectures Week of 14/10/24 - Using Evidence - Reading a Text to Prepare for a Tutorial Discussion Week of 21/10/24 - Preparing for Academic Study - Speaking in Seminars Week of 28/10/24 - Preparing for Academic Study - Reading, Making Notes and Summarising Week of 4/11/24 - Preparing for Academic Study - Understanding the Wording of Academic Tasks Week of 11/11/24 - Preparing for Academic Study - Understanding the Introduction of a Lecture Week of 18/11/24 - Academic Focus - Extracting Key Factual Information Week of 25/11/24 - Academic Focus - Writing a Description of Visual Information Week of 2/12/24 - Academic Focus - Recognising Key Information in a Lecture Week of 9/12/24 - Academic Focus - Presenting Visual Information Week of 16/12/24 - How to Write in the Passive Form Week of 23/12/24 - How to Write an Article Week of 30/12/24 - How to Organise Paragraphs Week of 6/1/25 - How to Include Evidence Week of 13/1/25 - How to Write a Conclusion Week of 20/1/25 - How to Write a Formal Letter Week of 27/1/25 - How to Write a Report Week of 3/2/25 - Using Evidence - Identifying Main Ideas and Supporting Evidence Further classes will be added.
