The best way to grow as a writer is to write, write, write! In this class, we will learn real writing strategies and apply them to our own real writing. We will see examples of good writing from books, poems, and other sources, and learn how to use those strategies as we tell our own stories. This fast-paced class will give students many opportunities during our short time together to show off their writing skills. We will start with a warm up where students draw a picture, or write a...
Students will practice several different story writing strategies. They will grow not only in their writing ability, but in their writing motivation as well.
With 7 years of experience teaching ELA, I have taught writing workshops for students in 1st grade through 5th grade. I have sought professional development from many sources, including Lucy Calkins' Units of Study in writing, professional conferences, among other sources.
Students will need lots of paper handy. This can be notebook paper, printer paper, construction paper, whatever they're comfortable with. It can be loose leaf paper, or they can use a writer's notebook. Students will need a sharpened pencil, crayons, markers, or whatever else they feel comfortable writing with. Stuffed animals are always welcome as long as they are helping us write our stories.
