課堂經歷

*If you have taken the first Sewing Series with me, please message me for a coupon code to save on enrolling for the next series.*

*This is the 2nd set of classes in the Sewing Series. For this class, it is recommended that students have completed the 1st Series, or that they are comfortable in threading a needle, tying a knot, using pins, cutting out a simple pattern, sewing a button, and using the running stitch, backstitch, and whipstitch.*

In the first week, students will review safety procedures for handling a needle, sewing pins, and scissors. These important procedures are critical to your child's success and will be modeled by the instructor. We will cut out a pattern for a felt container that can be used to hold small items. We will use a running stitch to assemble the box, and other decorative stitches to sew on felt designs.

In the second week, we will make a drawstring tote using fabric and ribbon. We will start class by cutting out the pattern, and the teacher will again model how to properly lay out a pattern, pin, and cut the fabric. Students will use a running stitch to construct the bag, as well as learn to create a casing to draw the ribbon through.

In the third week, we will create a card by using the backstitch to create our designs. We will sketch out our design in class and then work on our creation together. Students can also use other mediums (colored pencils, watercolor, etc) to support the ribbon stitching.

In the fourth week, we will create a weighted felt toadstool. We will cut out our pattern together, and learn how to construct the toadstool. We will also use a slipstitch to close openings after we have stuffed the parts.

In the fifth week, we will begin to work on our owl stuffed creation. *This will be started in the fifth class and finished during the sixth and final class.* First, we will cut out the body and feet of the owl, then stuff it and use a slipstitch/ladder stitch to close the opening, attaching the feet at the same time. We will then cut out the two wings (and follow the same procedure above), but also practice placement and attaching items.

In the sixth week, we will cut out the eyes, beak, and three rows of feathers. We will again work on placement for our items, and proceed with attaching the remaining pieces. We will also brainstorm any other features students may want to add in their design, as well as discuss how to create a pattern for other items they may want to make.

父母的引導和規範
Parental Guidance is recommended for the use of scissors and other sharp sewing objects (sewing pins and sewing needles).
供應清單
Before the session begins, students should have the following items available for all 6 classes.
*Additional items for each week are listed below, and patterns will be uploaded to the classroom for students.*

Fabric scissors
Straight pins with large, round heads
Tape measure
chalk
size 22 sharp point needles
Minimum of 2 spool pearl cotton *not embroidery floss.* You may want to coordinate colors with the felt and fabric choices, or just choose neutral colors. The items I looked at have 87 yards which is more than enough for our session. If you feel your child may enjoy adding more details you may want to stock up on a few colors for them.

*optional* thread snippers or thread scissors

Felt square (you can choose heavy felt, but this project can work with regular felt)
Felt scraps for adding designs

Week 2
Cotton fabric-1/4" yard or a fat quarter

Week 3

Week 5 & 6 (Owl will be completed during the last 2 classes since there are quite a few parts)

The teacher has been sewing since she was six years old, sewing her very first shirt as a gift for a friend when she was just seven. She's taught sewing in person to both kids and adults, both in an educational setting as well as just to others who wanted to learn. She's sewn various types of clothes, many different crafts, quilts, and memory bears in her over 30 years of sewing.
