Do you love Science? In this Ongoing Class, learners will explore a range of Science subjects in a fun and interactive way. This course aims to provide meaningful learning experiences for young explorers. Each class will include a range of teaching methods and activities that are designed to engage the learners in both a hands-on and minds-on way. Classes will include experiments, Q&A, quizzes, games, worksheets, videos and much more. Some classes will include breakout rooms. Learners will be encouraged to observe, explore, question and share what they learn. A variety of methods are used to support learners and cater for different learning styles and needs. What is taught in this course? Week of 1/4/24 - What is Meteorology? - study of the atmosphere and weather Week of 8/4/24 - What is Meteorology? - basic meteorological concepts, such as temperature, pressure, and humidity Week of 15/4/24 - What is Meteorology? - Weather observation activity: keeping a daily weather journal and recording observations Week of 22/4/24 - Atmospheric Layers and Composition - Earth's atmosphere, its layers, and composition Week of 29/4/24 - Atmospheric Layers and Composition - Oceanography - role of gases, aerosols, and greenhouse gases in the atmosphere Week of 6/5/24 - Atmospheric Layers and Composition - Atmospheric composition experiment: creating a model of Earth's atmosphere using different gases Week of 13/5/24 - Solar Radiation and the Greenhouse Effect - solar radiation, insulation, and the greenhouse effect Week of 20/5/24 - Solar Radiation and the Greenhouse Effect - Earth's energy balance and its impact on climate Week of 27/5/24 - Solar Radiation and the Greenhouse Effect - Greenhouse effect simulation activity: investigating the warming effect of greenhouse gases Week of 3/6/24 - Atmospheric Circulation and Winds - global wind patterns, including the Coriolis effect and the Hadley, Ferrel, and Polar cells Week of 10/6/24 - Atmospheric Circulation and Winds - local wind systems and their influences on weather Week of 17/6/24 - Atmospheric Circulation and Winds - Wind experiment: creating wind vane and anemometer to measure wind direction and speed Week of 24/6/24 - Cloud Formation and Types - cloud formation processes, including condensation and cloud nucleation Week of 1/7/24 - Cloud Formation and Types - cloud formation processes, including condensation and cloud nucleation Week of 8/7/24 - Cloud Formation and Types - Cloud observation project: identifying clouds in the sky and creating a cloud chart. Week of 15/7/24 - Precipitation Processes - precipitation types, including rain, snow, sleet, and hail Week of 22/7/24 - Precipitation Processes - precipitation formation processes such as coalescence and Bergeron process Week of 29/7/24 - Precipitation Processes - Rain gauge and snowflake observation activity: measuring and examining precipitation types Week of 5/8/24 - Severe Weather - severe weather phenomena, including thunderstorms, tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards Week of 12/8/24 - Severe Weather - formation, characteristics, and impacts of severe weather events Week of 19/8/24 - Severe Weather - Severe weather safety and preparedness discussion: creating a severe weather safety plan Week of 26/8/24 - Weather Instruments and Observations - weather instruments, including thermometers, barometers, hygrometers, and weather satellites Week of 2/9/24 - Weather Instruments and Observations - weather maps, symbols, and forecasting techniques Week of 9/9/24 - Weather Instruments and Observations - Weather station project: building a weather station and making weather observations Week of 16/9/24 - Climate and Climate Change - climate, climate zones, and factors influencing climate variability Week of 23/9/24 - Climate and Climate Change - climate change, its causes, impacts, and mitigation strategies Week of 30/9/24 - Climate and Climate Change - Climate change simulation activity: modeling the effects of climate change on weather patterns Week of 7/10/24 - Careers in Meteorology and Meteorological Phenomena - careers in meteorology, including meteorologists, climatologists, and weather forecasters Week of 14/10/24 - Careers in Meteorology and Meteorological Phenomena - meteorological phenomena such as auroras, lightning, and rainbows Week of 21/10/24 - Careers in Meteorology and Meteorological Phenomena - Creating a weather forecast presentation or researching a meteorological phenomenon We look forward to being part of your learning journey!
