Do you love Science? In this Ongoing Class, learners will explore a range of Science subjects in a fun and interactive way. This course aims to provide meaningful learning experiences for young explorers. Each class will include a range of teaching methods and activities that are designed to engage the learners in both a hands-on and minds-on way. Classes will include experiments, Q&A, quizzes, games, worksheets, videos and much more. Some classes will include breakout rooms. Learners will be encouraged to observe, explore, question and share what they learn. A variety of methods are used to support learners and cater for different learning styles and needs. What is taught in this course? Week of 1/4/24 - What is Environmental Science? - study of the environment and human impact Week of 8/4/24 - What is Environmental Science? - basic environmental concepts, such as ecosystems, biodiversity, and sustainability Week of 15/4/24 - What is Environmental Science? - Nature walk or outdoor exploration to observe and appreciate local ecosystems Week of 22/4/24 - Ecosystems and Biodiversity - human activities affecting the environment, such as pollution, deforestation, and habitat destruction Week of 29/4/24 - Ecosystems and Biodiversity - concept of ecological footprint and its implications Week of 6/5/24 - Ecosystems and Biodiversity - Biodiversity survey activity: identifying and documenting plant and animal species in a local habitat Week of 13/5/24 - Human Impact on the Environment - Environmental impact assessment project: analyzing the environmental impact of a local development project Week of 20/5/24 - Human Impact on the Environment - erosion, deposition, and coastal sediment transport. Week of 27/5/24 - Human Impact on the Environment - virtual tour to a local coastline to observe coastal processes firsthand. Week of 3/6/24 - Conservation and Restoration - conservation strategies and initiatives to protect natural habitats and species Week of 10/6/24 - Conservation and Restoration - restoration ecology and techniques for ecosystem restoration Week of 17/6/24 - Conservation and Restoration - Habitat restoration activity: participating in a local conservation project or restoration effort Week of 24/6/24 - Climate Change - its causes, impacts, and mitigation strategies Week of 1/7/24 - Climate Change - climate science, greenhouse gases, and global warming Week of 8/7/24 - Climate Change - Climate action project: planning and implementing a climate-friendly initiative in the community or school Week of 15/7/24 - Water Resources and Management - water resources, including freshwater sources, water cycle, and water pollution Week of 22/7/24 - Water Resources and Management - water management practices, conservation strategies, and water quality testing Week of 29/7/24 - Water Resources and Management - Water quality monitoring field trip or virtual tour of a wastewater treatment plant Week of 5/8/24 - Air Pollution and Quality - air pollution sources, types, and impacts on human health and the environment Week of 12/8/24 - Air Pollution and Quality - air quality monitoring techniques and regulatory measures Week of 19/8/24 - Air Pollution and Quality - Air quality monitoring project: measuring air pollutants in different locations and analyzing data Week of 26/8/24 - Waste Management and Recycling - waste management practices, including waste reduction, recycling, and composting Week of 2/9/24 - Waste Management and Recycling - environmental impacts of waste generation and disposal Week of 9/9/24 - Waste Management and Recycling - Waste audit activity: conducting a waste audit to assess waste generation and develop waste reduction strategies Week of 16/9/24 - Sustainable Living and Green Technology - sustainable living practices, including energy efficiency, renewable energy, and green building Week of 23/9/24 - Sustainable Living and Green Technology - green technology and innovations for sustainable development Week of 30/9/24 - Sustainable Living and Green Technology - Green technology design challenge: designing and building a model of a sustainable structure or device Week of 7/10/24 - Environmental Ethics and Action - environmental ethics, stewardship, and responsibility Week of 14/10/24 - Environmental Ethics and Action - environmental activism and advocacy efforts Week of 21/10/24 - Environmental Ethics and Action - Creating an environmental awareness campaign or community action plan We look forward to being part of your learning journey!
