In this course we will learn about the 11 glued sounds that students should be able to indentify when sounding out new words. Being able to indentify glued sounds helps young readers sound out new words. The 11 glued sounds we will cover are all, an, am, ang, ing, ong, ung, ank, ink, onk, and unk. In each class we will learn a glued sound/keyword connection, this helps the students memorize the sounds each glued sound makes (i.e. "ang-sang-ang" where they spell it, say the keyword, then say the sound), then we will do some practice activities like matching pictures to the glued sound that is in the word or coming up with words that have a certain glued sound. In the first class we will cover all, an, and am. In the second class we will cover ang and ing. In the third class we will cover ong and ung. In the fourth class we will cover ank and ink. In the fifth class we will cover onk and unk. In the last class we will review all of the glued sounds. This is where I will informally assess their learning throughout the course. The course will consist of slides, class discussion, and games.
