If you love animals and want to improve your digital art, then this is the class for you! Every week we will draw a different cute animal cartoon together using Procreate on our iPads. The teacher will give step-by-step instruction, but learners are highly encouraged to experiment, be creative, and customize their drawing! Our goal is to have fun and develop creativity while learning more about how to use Procreate. 

We will begin with a quick sketch using basic geometrical shapes, then we will add color, shadow and light, texture, and detail. During class the teacher will share tips and tricks on how to use many of the different features in Procreate such as layers, brushes, liquify, lasso/selection, and more! The teacher will show different options for eyes and facial expressions, or feel free to come up with your own! There will be options to keep things simple or to challenge yourself with more advanced techniques. As we draw together, we will also refer to basic art concepts such as color theory, lighting, and value.  

Learners are encouraged to ask questions along the way and are welcome to hold up their artwork to the camera to get encouragement and tips for improvement. At the end of each lesson, we will vote on next week's animal! The subjects are learner directed and suggestions for future animals are welcome and encouraged.

This class is ongoing and meets throughout the year. Please feel free to join in or leave at any time! 

*Please note that everyone works at a different pace, and some learners may not end up with a completed piece during class. Learners are encouraged to use the techniques from the lesson to continue developing their artwork outside of class, which can then be shared at the beginning of the next class!  

*It is recommended that learners have at least some basic drawing experience and are familiar with the basics of the Procreate app. 

⚠️IMPORTANT: This class requires an iPad and the app Procreate purchased and downloaded (one-time cost of about $13 USD - Apple account required to purchase). They will also need an Apple Pencil or other stylus (preferably pressure sensitive) to use with the app. Using only your finger or a mouse is difficult and not recommended. Procreate is currently only available for Apple products and cannot be used on Android tablets. Learners may use another software (such as Photoshop, Krita, Clip Studio Paint, GIMP, etc.), but they must be familiar with the program and have a basic knowledge of how to create layers, choose colors, and change brushes. While the basic skills we will be covering are transferable to other software, I am most familiar with Procreate and I may not be able to help learners with specific issues they might encounter using alternative software.
