Let's create dinosaurs together! We'll practice some basic techniques for drawing, building and sculpting dinosaurs together. By learning to recognize the main shapes and features of some of our favorite dinosaurs, students will build their confidence and ability to recreate any dinosaur they want to learn about. Students will learn to identify basic shapes and features of selected dinosaurs. Students will learn techniques for recreating those dinosaurs on paper (drawing), with building blocks (ie LEGO or DUPLO or other construction blocks), and with clay or playdough. Students will learn introductory facts about the featured dinosaurs, and will practice observation skills as we examine those dinosaurs for their main features and shapes. Students will practice following directions, asking questions, and presentation skills.
I'm so excited to share my love of creating and especially DINOSAURS with you! I've been teaching STEAM and art classes through fun, engaging topics like these to preschool through middle school for 6 years through an independent STEAM education company, as well as at a local arts facility. I'm really looking forward to connecting with new students here on Outschool. Not only will we be learning about dinosaurs (yay!)--but we'll sneak in some colors, shapes, comparing and contrasting, observation, art skills and more--all things that preK, kindergartners and 1st graders love to learn and practice!

Several pages of blank drawing paper or a blank spiral-bound sketchbook (so that it can lay flat for ease of use) Pencil Drawing/coloring supplies such as crayons, markers, colored pencils, etc Printer--Printed materials will be provided by the instructor prior to class (for reference--optional) Clay or Playdough that is easy for your child to use (or similar modeling material) LEGO, DUPLO or other building/construction blocks (the instructor will be using DUPLO bricks for her demonstration) Dinosaur toys (optional) for reference and inspiration
Allergy Note: Playdough may contain wheat, which could cause an allergic reaction if ingested in those sensitive to wheat gluten or with Celiac disease. I am happy to provide a recipe for gluten-free playdough upon request, or suggest alternative supplies. Please provide adult assistance with cutting/scissor-use as needed per the parents' discretion and child's ability.
