讓我們辯論一下：家庭作業應該被禁止嗎？

In this one-time class, students will be introduced to debate.  We will be learning what the word debate means and how debate is used.  Next, we will consider our mock debate topic, Should Homework be Banned?  First, we will define our terms.  Then, we will create positive and negative arguments for our topic.  At the end of the class, I will ask students to weigh these arguments, and we will have a class vote to determine which side is stronger.  No debate experience is required as we will learn together.

There will be lots of interaction and discussion in class.  Each student will be asked to contribute.  However, students can always pass if they are not comfortable sharing.  

Why choose debate?   First, debate helps students improve their critical thinking skills.  Debate also helps students improve their public speaking skills, encourages collaborative work, and helps students organize and structure their thoughts in an effective way.  Debate experience can improve your confidence, curiosity, and leadership skills.  Debate is great!
