Phonics instruction is a critical component of literacy instruction for beginner ELLs who are learning or struggling to read in English. One of the most challenging tasks for literacy learners is decoding. Decoding is the ability to correctly decipher and identify a word from a string of letters. Learners will develop and strengthen their decoding skills to become better readers of English. Participants will have a greater understanding of the individual sounds within spoken words and how these sounds are manipulated to form words.
