This Latin reading course is for continuing learners who already have already completed 1-2 years of Latin study. This course picks up in Chapter 16 of Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata Pars I Familia Romana. Among other more nuanced content, this course assumes knowledge of all five noun declensions (not 4th declension neuter), present verbs in the active and passive, and deponent voices, all present tense infinitives, and vocabulary of Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata Chapters 1-15. I highly recommend students engage with Latin on their own time in addition to the work we do in class. I do not, however, collect or grade homework for these courses. I often recommend assignments or let students know in advance what we will complete in coming classes; but it is not for a grade.1 - 2 每週課外時間

Optional written assessments (midterm / final exam style) will be available for students to complete. Additionally we use Quizlet Live frequently to provide formative assessments in vocabulary. Chapter 16 includes a detailed conversation about two different religions of the Roman Empire (2nd Century CE: one character is a Roman pagan who believes in the gods like Neptune and Jupiter; the other is a monotheistic Christian who carries a small Bible with her. Set in the height of the Roman Empire, this conversation reflects two of the most prominent religions of the area at that time. Like all Outschool classes, this is taught from a neutral and secular perspective, not advocating or supporting one belief system over another. We take the characters' words at face value, discuss their meaning in their ancient Roman context (albeit this is a fictional story), and we reflect on how people of differing religious beliefs can interact with one another respectfully and considerately both in this Latin historical fiction and in our modern world today.
