This class is an 8-week series. Students will sketch a new fantasy landscape every week. Though prior knowledge in basic sketching skills are not mandatory to attend, it is highly recommended that complete beginners join our Fundamental Pencil Sketching Landscapes series before they proceed to this class: Pencil Sketching Fundamentals Part 4 - Landscapes & Perspectives https://outschool.com/classes/3-week-pencil-sketching-art-series-part-4-landscapes-perspectives-DxjZKCZf#usRzeseCIM Class will: 1. observe the relative positions of subjects, map out the frame, identify shapes and particularly look for shadow shapes (mapping light and dark) 2. learn how to use lines to create shapes and forms, how to use values to contrast light and dark to add shadows 3. learn to fit details into the drawing as a whole and develop a personal way of simplifying the details so that it is quicker to draw complex backgrounds 4. understand the principles of perspective, horizon line and vanishing point 5. create and complete with a story by adding surrounding elements like trees, clouds and fantasy animals, etc. Once they built a solid foundation and keep practicing, they will be able to design a multitude of imaginative landscapes of their own. Classes are highly interactive and students will have the opportunity to socialize and share their ideas in a fun and upbeat environment. This is a highly sought-after class for landscape sketching enthusiasts who aspire to become the next generation of children's book illustrators and movie animators. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever is their preference. Younger learners are highly encouraged to leave their cameras on. Refunds & Missed Classes All of our classes are backed by Outschool’s standard policy. To receive a full refund, parents may withdraw or stop their subscription within 24 hours of payment, provided that the next meeting or lesson access has not yet begun. No refunds are issued if a learner misses a live meeting. Recordings are made available in each classroom and can be watched at their convenience. Students are always welcome to reach out with any questions and share their work in the classroom. Late/ Missed Class All classes will begin on time as long as one learner is in the classroom. Teacher Allie May is a contemporary artist who loves to indulge in all mediums, but focuses most on drawing and painting. She is a graduate student in the BFA program at California State University Long Beach, and aims to pursue a career in teaching art. Her art influence began at a young age, but she considers herself “self-taught.” Allie is passionate about encouraging students to master the fundamental skills and technical aspects of creating, but also develop a style that is unique to each student. Her promise is to encourage a mindset where students are confident in themselves and their ability to create.
