課堂經歷
During this ongoing class, Kindergarten students (ages 4-6) will have fun practicing math skills, literacy skills, and social skills. We will learn basic math skills such as number sense, number identification, basic counting, using ten frames, numeral writing, subitizing, simple addition and subtraction, number bonds, one more, one less, counting on, comparing objects, and more. Basic literacy skills include letter identification, letter sounds, rhyming words, word families, phonemic awareness and phonics skills, oral language, identifying parts of a book, and engaging with a text. Social skills will be addressed such as listening, taking turns, and the basic rules for learning within a classroom. Each month we will explore thematic books based on the month of the year. The students will get to know each other, make story predictions, be introduced to new vocabulary words, and listen as the teacher reads the story aloud. Virtual stories may also be used to promote listening comprehension skills. Students can leave thematic book suggestions within the online classroom to help the teacher plan books for the following week. It is always fun to share stories that are based on student interests and favorite authors! Each class will follow a similar format: -Introduction to class -Circle Time with fun songs, student discussion, and sharing -Morning Meeting with math and literacy skills -Book Talk - cover, author, illustrator, and story predictions -Read book aloud (or listen online) with discussion of vocabulary and story events *We will read 1-2 books aloud as class time allows. Hello! My name is Bethany McClure. I attended Auburn University where I earned my B.S. and M.Ed. in Elementary Education and my M.S. in Early Childhood Education. I received my EdS in Curriculum & Instruction: Early Childhood from LSU. I am currently working on my dissertation at LSU to receive my PhD next summer! I have 13 years of experience in the education field. I have taught preschool (ages 3 and 4), Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade. My experience includes teaching gifted learners, as well as at-risk students. I am also an experienced ESL teacher and a National Board Certified Teacher - Early Childhood Generalist. Currently, I am an Instructor within the Elementary Education department at Georgia College & State University.
Teaching is my passion and I am excited to offer some of my favorite lessons and subject knowledge. I believe that "Learning is a journey... not a race!" Learning should be fun and it should be based on student interest. I hope your child will find my classes to be fun, engaging, and a meaningful stepping stone on their own journey through early childhood education.
When I'm not teaching, I enjoy watching Auburn Football and Basketball, as well as Atlanta Braves Baseball. I love spending time with my boyfriend, Clint and I have two children - Sarah (10) and Sophie (7). I love running and am proud to have completed my first marathon, the St. Jude Memphis Marathon! I look forward to learning more about you. See you in class!
