While the main focus will be on allowing young fantasy enthusiasts to share their love of mythological and magical beings, we will also be practicing important social and educational skills as we learn about habitats, adaptation, and other STEAM concepts.  The short creature lesson at the beginning will provide a framework for these discussions and will help the young explorer to build and develop observation, recreation, and communication skills, as well as foster curiosity, wonder, and interest in the world around them, big and small, real and imagined.  The field guide will serve as a fun keepsake and reference for future fantasy studies and reflection.

I'm so excited to share my love of magical creatures with you!  I've been teaching STEAM and social studies topics like this one to preschool through middle school for 8 years through an independent STEAM education company, and I'm really looking forward to connecting with new students here on Outschool.  Not only will we be learning about the fantastic world of magical beasts--but we'll sneak in some colors, numbers and math, comparing and contrasting, observation, movement and more--all things that preK-through-2nd graders love to learn and practice!  Best of all, your child will have the opportunity to share, share, share all of their favorite magical facts and stories!

Occasional extension activities or videos may be provided between meetings, but are always optional and will not affect in-class participation.  Students who wish to complete these extra activities will be encouraged to share them virtually in the classroom posts or during the "show and tell" portion of our weekly live meeting.
