每週 1 小時. In between classes 7-8, once students have learned and practiced their editing skills during class, they will be given the assignment to finish their editing to bring a completed final draft to our last class for a Writer's Celebration. :)
評估
Students will be assessed by their progress in following along with the PDF downloads / worksheets I have created for the class. There is a story comparison chart that we will work on completing together each week as we read the story. Then there is one for each, their story outline, their first draft, and a checklist for editing their writing to create a final draft.

Jump Into Gingerbread with me as we read three classic Gingerbread stories together! Then, create your own and celebrate with a writer’s publication celebration!

We’ll compare the characters and story line from three different versions of the Gingerbread Boy story:

1: The Gingerbread Boy by Catherine McCafferty
2: Gingerbread Baby by Jan Brett
3: The Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Ernst

Then you’ll write a story of your own! I’ll guide you through a process to discover the unique story that YOU want to tell. :)

Come explore with us and join in an adventure of story, and writing that will help you to create something brand new!

YOU are an author, and I can’t wait to read your story! :)

I hope you can join us!

Here’s the class outline for what we’ll be doing in each class:

Class 1: We’ll read Traditional Gingerbread Boy & identify basic story elements and characters. We’ll begin a comparison chart for the various versions of the story to compare and contrast the elements of each.

Class 2: We’ll read Gingerbread Baby & identify basic story elements and characters. We’ll continue a comparison chart for the various versions of the story to compare and contrast the elements of each.

Class 3: We’ll read The Gingerbread Girl & identify basic story elements and characters. We’ll continue a comparison chart for the various versions of the story to compare and contrast the elements of each.

Class 4: We’ll learn and practice pre-writing strategies in a lesson called “Mapping Out Your Own Gingerbread Story.” This is where you’ll create a map or outline of the characters, plot twists, etc, and any other creative elements you want to add to your story.

Class 5: We’ll have plenty of writing time so you can actually write your story, knowing I’m there to help with anything you need. I call this “Writing Your Gingerbread Story,” where you’ll create a first draft on free writing paper. *And remember, you’ll have your outline to revisit as well if you get stuck. :)

Class 6: We’ll practice some simple editing techniques in “Editing Your Gingerbread Story.” Follow a simple 5-point check or inspection to help your story shine! :)

Class 7: We'll begin writing your final draft and talk about how illustrations can enhance your story.
*You’ll have homework after this class to complete your final draft for our final class with a Writing Celebration!

Class 8: We’ll have time for you to “Share Your Gingerbread Story in a Publication Celebration!” You can choose to read your story aloud or not, depending on what feels comfortable to you. Listen and celebrate the work of others, and allow us to celebrate YOU!

I hope you can join us, because it’s going to be a WONDERFUL adventure and I’d love to see you in class! :)

I created this class offering as an adapted version from the unit I used to teach with my first grade students.
For this version, I have limited the number of stories we will compare and have extended the writing portion to create an even more dynamic and unique experience for students to use their creativity to create their own stories and practice their writing and editing skills along the way! :)
Plus, I just love gingerbread! :)
The various versions of The Gingerbread Man are all unique and fun in their own way. This will help give students an example of how the same basic story or structure can be used to create wildly new, fun and exciting stories of their own! :) The sky is the limit with what they can create!
