In this 3-week course, students will listen to an interactive read aloud of a Junie B. Jones book each week. As a kid, I read each and every one of the Junie B. Jones books countless times. This series by Barbra Parks is absolutely hilarious and timeless! Each class description is below. Class 1: We will be introduced to Junie B. Jones and read the first book in the series, Junie B. Jones and the Stupid, Smelly Bus. I will ask questions along the way to check for understanding of characters, setting and plot. We will have time after to discuss our favorite parts of the book. Class 2: We will read Junie B Jones and That Meanie Jim’s Birthday. We will talk briefly about characters and the plot. Class 3: We will read Junie B. Jones Smells Something Fishy. We will talk about our thoughts on the book and we will take a vote on which Junie B. book was our favorite (out of the 3 we’ve read)!

Students will improve their listening skills as they listen to a short chapter book out loud. Students will also work in their communication skills as they answer questions about characters, plots and settings.

Hello, Outschool families! Thank you for checking out my teacher profile! My name is Courtney McMillan (Mrs. McMillan, or Miss Courtney for littles) and I would love to see you in my classroom!
A little bit about me:
I earned my bachelor’s degree in English and journalism at Eastern Illinois University in 2013. I have been working as an online ESL teacher for the past two years and also have about seven years experience working in a traditional classroom setting from preschool all the way up through high school.
My passion is teaching and encouraging kids to love reading! My style of teaching is very patient, laid-back and calm. I feel this gives my students a sense of security and they feel safe to learn (and make mistakes) in my classroom.
When I'm not teaching, I'm usually spending time with my husband and young son, exploring our home state of Idaho, or reading a book (of course!).
