課堂經歷

Come take a break from all the craziness of life and school and have a good time with new friends! This class is to give students a chance to have fun with their peers by playing different games each week. Students will get to choose which games we will play each week. This class is meant to be fun and light-hearted and give students a chance to socialize and have fun with others their age.

Game ideas will include:
1. Scattergories: Students are given a list of categories and a letter of the alphabet. They must create a list of words based on each prompt using the letter given. Earn points by having the most unique answers!
2. Skribbl.io* - Just like Pictionary. *Students will be given a link to a separate website than Outschool to play this game*. Each student takes turns choosing one word from a choice of 3 words, and starts drawing! Everyone else in the game room types their guesses and tries to guess the word first! The first person to guess the word gets the most points each round. The drawer also gets points when each player (or all players) guesses their word. The person with the most points at the end of all the rounds is the winner!
3. Taboo - Students will be split into 2 teams. Each student takes a turn trying to get their team to guess the word on the card without saying the buzz words (students will receive this information in a private chat from the teacher on zoom).
4. Word Find - Make/write as many words as you can from one (or two) longer word(s).
5. Drawception - An online version of Telestrations. This game combines Pictionary with Telephone. Each student receives a word or phrase and starts by drawing that word or phrase. The next student looks only at the drawing and then makes their guess (like Pictionary). The next student uses this new word/phrase guess to draw THEIR picture for the next student to guess. On and on, until the final round. See whose comes the closest to the original word/phrase!
6. Never Have I Ever - This game is a great way for students to get to know each other. Everybody holds up 5-10 fingers. Every time someone states "Never have I ever ...." if you HAVE done this thing, you have to put one finger down. The winner is the last one with fingers still up.
7. Name, Place, Animal, Thing - This game is similar to Scattergories, but faster-paced. A letter will be randomly chosen, and each player must come up with a famous person's name, a place, an animal, and thing (object) that starts with that one letter. The first person to submit their answer wins.
8. Yes or No? - Each student will receive a word (can be a person, place, or thing) privately. All other members will have to ask yes or no questions to try and figure out what word they received. Be the first to guess the correct answer!
9. Kahoot Trivia* - Test your knowledge on some random facts! See how many trivia questions you can answer correctly!
10. Classic MadLibs - Create silly stories by filling in the blanks!
11. Classic Pictionary - Split into 2 teams, students will take turns drawing pictures from words given by the teacher and hope their teammates can guess their word for points!
12. Charades - Students will be split into 2 teams or teams of 2. Each player will be given a word to act out to get their teammates to guess the word!
13. Boggle - Using the letters showing on the game piece, students create as many words as they can. The player who comes up with the most words wins!
14. Letter Scavenger Hunt - Whether it's all 26 letters in the alphabet, or just a handful, students will go off on a scavenger hunt for a set amount of time finding things that begin with each letter! The person who finds the most items wins!
15. Five Things - Students will be given a category and have to come up with a list of 5 things that are related to the topic.
16. Emoji Guessing Game - Students will be given a category (movies, song titles, book titles, etc.) and a list of emoji sequences. They can work together or alone to try and figure out the titles/names based on the sequence of emojis.
17. Read My Lips! - Each student will come up with a phrase. When it is their turn, they must mute their microphone and slowly say the phrase into the camera. Everyone else must guess what they are saying based on their lip movements.
18. Mad Gab - Split into 2 teams or teams of 2, students will be given gibberish phrases to read aloud to their teammates or partners to have them try to guess the ACTUAL phrase.

Come to have fun, make new friends, and play some really fun games!

**Disclaimer: some games, such as Skribbl.io and Kahoot!, will require students to use websites and/or applications that are not within Outschool.**

Hello! My name is Teacher Rebecca! I currently live in Northern/Central New York, though I lived in New York City for 10 years where I taught middle school reading and writing. I am Mama to two wonderful little ones, my son is almost 4 and my daughter is now almost 1! We are a bilingual home and raising our kids to speak both Spanish and English :) I received my Master's degree in Literacy (reading and writing skills), as well as my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education (1st through 6th grade). As mentioned above, I taught reading and writing to middle schoolers (grades 5-8) for 6 years in New York City. In 2018, I also worked one-on-one with students in grades 1-3 on their reading and writing skills. I taught English Language Learners online from September of 2018 until November of 2020. I love teaching and I love my students! I am most passionate about teaching reading and writing skills, as well as critical thinking skills. I love to connect with and build relationships with my students. I also love playing soccer, playing with my kids, watching movies, spending time outside (hiking, camping, etc.), and being with friends and family. I am passionate about creating a life-long love of reading and it is truly a joy to hear students' thoughts and opinions about what they are reading and how it relates to their lives and the world around them. Children have so much to say and I love to listen! I love to make learning fun in my classroom and I can't wait to teach your child!

Class Policies:

1) I aim to keep classes close to the scheduled amount of time, however, classes with low enrollments or especially talkative students may run a few minutes under or a few minutes over.

2) If a class does not meet the minimum enrollment requirements, I will contact the parent or learner to transfer them to a different section if they wish.

3) Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom (unless there appears to be a technical issue). I will not contact absent learners during class time so I can focus on the learners who are present.

4) If no learners are in the classroom, I will wait 10-15 minutes before exiting the classroom. In this situation, I will contact the families after I have left the classroom.

5) Classroom expectations are as follows:
a. Learners will remain muted the entire lesson to avoid any distracting or awkward background noises for both the learners and myself. Learners will get to share and speak in class, but will remain muted otherwise.
b. All learners are expected to be focused as much as possible for their current age. For younger learners, they are welcomed to bring a toy or stuffed animal if that helps them remain in class. Older students are asked to not have their phones with them in class so they can focus on learning.
c. Parents and siblings are welcomed to watch the class but if siblings are going to both participate, each sibling must be enrolled in the lesson individually. Siblings cannot attend and participate in class with only one enrollment to the lesson.
d. If a student cannot appropriately behave and participate in a lesson, they will be given three warnings before being placed in the waiting room. The student will be placed in the waiting room as long as the teacher best sees fit and will be readmitted to class when the teacher feels they are ready to rejoin. If behaviors are extreme enough, the parent will be contacted by the teacher and the OutSchool team will be notified as well.
