課堂經歷
Students are welcome to join at any time, regardless of where we are at in the schedule. This course will specifically be focused on working with numerous paints, such as watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and tempera, to allow for a thorough learning and practicing experience within this medium category. I will be teaching students a number of techniques, such as utilizing a wash, creating specific textures, and how to accurately mix colors. Students will then work to apply learned skills to a painting of an image we will work from as a group. I will be provinding images for subject matter, with a variety of people, landscapes, abstract, etc. Students will be encouraged to find their own images, if comfortable, as long as they apply to the lesson and subject matter. In addition, drawing skills will also, naturally, be practiced and developed as drawing will need to be completed prior to the painting process in many instances. Each week, we will meet and prepare for specific artwork and subject matter and will then spend numerous class periods to thoroughly complete the work to satisfaction. I will have specific activities to practice certain techniques. For instance, we will have times where we practice mixing colors to replicate a color seen in an image. Some of these will take place in the form of a game. My classes maintain a positive atmosphere with the central goal of developing and growing as artists. For this reason, there are no grades and students are welcome to converse and connect to one another during times when I am not teaching. No previous skill is necesary. Anyone and everyone is welcome no matter the skill set, as I will adjust my teaching to each individual's needs. Week 1- Getting comfortable with watercolor and playing around with it; teaching some techniques; play around with salt technique; prepping first painting (Landscape, realistic or surrealist). Week 2 -Drawing the image first; if time, starting painting process. Week 3 - Working on painting. Week 4 - Working on painting; finish painting. Week 5 - Color mixing game with watercolor! Lesson on watercolor skin tones. Prepping second watercolor painting (figure...with a twist!!) Week 6 - Drawing the image; if time, starting the painting process. Week 7 - Work on painting. Week 8 - Work on painting; finsh painting. Week 9 - Shaving cream marble painting. Week 10 - Introduce Acrylic. Dear Families,
I have loved and cherished art for my entire life and my hope is that I may be able to ignite or strengthen this love for art within my students. I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into my virtual classroom.
My philosophy for learning in the art room revolves around differentiating instruction for each student’s individual needs. Coming together into the classroom, we each bring with us our goals, desires, our histories, our struggles, and our joys. Art allows us to express these aspects about ourselves and I believe it is important to do so. Through each of our projects, I will work with every individual learner to adjust the parameters to their interests and skill set while challenging them to always push forward.
Through my virtual classroom, I will be teaching art classes in painting, drawing, and even some sculpture for all ages and for all creative minds! We will work with a wide variety of materials, techniques, and analytical thought processes in each of my classes.
Through my undergraduate career, I received a BFA in Studio Art with an emphasis in Sculpture and a BSE in K-12 Art Education, both in the spring of 2023. Beginning in the Fall of 2023, I will be pursuing a Master's in Fine Art in the highly ranked MFA program at Arizona State University. I have been teaching on Outschool since May of 2020 and have assisted artists in residence and students at the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in Vermont during their summer 2022 stone carving workshops. I have created and sold a wide variety of artwork professionally, such as drawings, paintings, and sculptures, and have exhibited in a variety of art galleries. I am highly passionate about art and I strongly believe that when doing artwork, you are building a relationship with your materials and the creation itself. Throughout my time doing and practicing artwork, I have learned that art is a powerful force that can be meditative and help connect you with yourself and the values you carry.
With all this being said, I am happy to receive any comments, questions, or concerns through Outschool messaging. I look forward to working with your child and supporting them in every step of the process through their artistic endeavors!
Sincerely,
Amelia LaChance
