This class is an introduction to William Shakespeare and his work. In this class we will learn about what life was like when Shakespeare was writing and explore some of his most popular stories through scene work. Shakespeare was meant to be heard and not read, so we learn about the stories, get to know the characters, and act out scenes from some of his most famous work! Students will learn an overview of some important facts about William Shakespeare's life and legacy and what it was like to live in Shakespeare's day. They will also become familiar with some of his stories, characters, and language. Finally, they will take an actor's perspective and begin to explore acting and performing Shakespeare's work!
Students are encouraged to bring a notebook, a highlighter, and a pen or pencil to class! I will be providing short 1-2 page scripts that I will ask you to print for them.
Shakespeare wrote about mature themes that students will be exposed to including war and violence. All mature themes will be handled with care.
We will refer to Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet, Julius Caesar, and other works.
