In this ten-week summer course, students will be introduced to the world of Reggae Music and will explore the origins of Reggae, Music, and the various types of Reggae Music, along with the influential and lessor known icons of reggae music. We will explore reggae music and how it affects and impact Jamaican culture and the world. We will listen to and analyze different types of reggae music and reggae artists' styles. Students will create their own reggae music and present it to the class as a final project. Week 1: Define and learn what Reggae music is. Week 2: Origin and History of Reggae Music Week 3: Different types of Reggae Music and the difference between each of them. Week4: Factors that Influence Reggae Music Week 5: Reggae Music Icons Week 6: How Reggae Music impacts and affects Jamaican Culture. Week 7: Reggae Music and the Rastafarianism Connection Week8: The Influence of Reggae around the world and it's social impact. Week 9: Reggae as a Social Movement/Social Change Week 10: Final Project

My name is Stephanie Butler and I have a Master's Degree in Education. I teach History, English, Social Studies and Religious studies. I have worked as a substitute teacher and taught ESL classes online to students all over the world. My teaching philosophy is that all can learn, and we must meet students where they are to help them learn and realize their potential. I believe in keeping students engaged in the classes I teach and strive to do so, no matter the circumstances. I love reading Shakespeare, fantasy books, playing board games with my family and watching foreign movies and television shows.
