This is a SINGLE MEETING class that is an introduction not only to the ukelele but also what it's like to learn to play an instrument. It's the perfect way to "dip your toes" into learning an instrument and finding out if your child is interested and ready to take more classes. We will take a look at how the ukulele is different from other instruments and learn the names of the parts of the ukelele. We'll learn the names of the strings, how to use our fingers to press the strings, and jpw tp strum chords. Students will learn to play a simple song using one or possibly two chords by the end of the class. 

Class size is small to ensure that all students have plenty of opportunities to participate actively and interact with the teacher. Learning activities will leverage young children's natural inclination to move and channel that to support successfully playing. Simple games, songs, and chants will be used to help the students learn naturally and enjoyably. 

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR PARENTS: Because it is a stringed instrument, the ukelele will need to be tuned for your child to have a truly successful experience. While your ukelele may have been in tune when shipped, most instruments require a "tune up." Many ukuleles now come with a digital tuner. If you have one - great! Follow the directions and you are set. If you do not have a digital tuner, I recommend using the app "GuitarTuna." I have included a link in the learner supply materials. This is a very handy app on which you can play the pitch for each string and then gently and gradually move the pegs until the sound matches. I recommend that parents handle tuning at first. A child may inadvertently turn a peg too far in enthusiasm and potentially break a string. Until your child has some experience, it is best if the parent tunes the instrument.
