課堂經歷

This 14-week course is going to take students to the next level in their playing. Because we will be covering several songs from "Suzuki Violin School: Volume 1" as well as the skills necessary to play them, students will need to practice individually in order to achieve their highest potential. This class is for students who have either played for one year or completed the first book of a method book. 

       Students will interact with one another by playing and practicing in groups during class, which is called sectionals. I will interact with the students by playing with them, answering their questions, giving them feedback on their playing, and guiding them every step of the way. The class size is kept small on purpose to give each student more one-on-one instruction time.  
       
       Class time is structured as follows: tuning check (students should tune before class starts), short review, new topic/technique of the day, mastering of pieces, spotlight time, and a homework assignment. If you are left wondering what "spotlight time" is all about, it is a time for students to play for their peers and show what they have learned. Students will only play if they wish to do so. The homework assignments will be to practice the designated pieces or exercises for that week, and I will also assign exercises from the theory book.

Students will need a violin, bow, shoulder rest, rosin, instrument stand, and the book we will use, "Suzuki Violin School: Volume 1". 

The topics covered will be:

WEEK 1: G Scale and Arpeggio using: 2 and 4-note slurs / Martelé

WEEK 2: Accents: How to produce them with the bow / Practice accents in G and D scale exercise /"Allegretto"

WEEK 3: Continuation of "Allegretto"

WEEK 4: Accents / "Irish Violin" tune practice including accents and fast 4-note slurs

WEEK 5: Class performance practice of "Allegretto" and "Irish Violin" songs

WEEK 6: Off-the-string strokes: Brush Stroke / Beginning of "Gavotte"

WEEK 7: Brush Stroke continuation / Exercise for low and high 2nd and 3rd fingers / "Gavotte" / Short exercise to practice 2-note slurs and accents

WEEK 8: "Minuet 3": first half / Grace notes / "Gavotte"

WEEK 9: "Minuet 3": second half /  "Gavotte": cantabile part

WEEK 10: "Minuet 3": whole song / "Gavotte": last part

WEEK 11:  "Minuet 3" and "Gavotte" practice

WEEK 12: Review and rehearsal for the concert

WEEK 13: Rehearsal with performance tracks
Week 14:Final concert and award ceremony

For students to reach their fullest potential when learning "Allegro", "Minuet 1", "The Happy Farmer", and  "Minuet 3", and become comfortable with the new techniques introduced.

        I am offering this course because teaching violin is my passion. It is the instrument I love most and know most about, and I feel it is my calling to pass both my knowledge and love for this amazing instrument to others. 
        I am a professional musician and a State-Certified K-12 Music teacher based in Miami, Florida. I hold a Master’s Degree in Music Education and a Bachelor's in Violin Performance from Florida International University. 
        I have worked with pre-school and school-aged children for over five years, and have taught group music lessons as well as private music lessons to hundreds of students. I am passionate about passing on the love and knowledge I have for music to all of my students.
