課堂經歷
In this Writing to Inform: Informational Writing class the students will be presented writing strategies through the Workshop model of instruction. The lessons reflect a range of informational writing standards for the second grade level. The components of each lesson includes: a group meeting, teaching through demonstration and explicit writing instruction with a discussion. During the active engagement segment the students apply newly learned skills, and the lesson concludes with a share meeting at the end of each lesson as a review. The students will be introduced to the craft of informative writing through group writing using class mentor writings. As an elementary classroom/ special education teacher, teaching the informative writing unit is a good way to introduce students to nonfiction text structures. The students are able to read than write about wild animals and share the new information they have learned through writing. This builds a sense of awareness of the nonfiction text structures. This unit of study helps the young writers develop their informative writing skills and confidence in writing. I have seen students achieve success, build confidence, and growth with writing informational texts and using strategies in writing.
