Learners will gain knowledge and skills in all areas of literacy, including reading, writing, comprehension, and vocabulary development.

I am a certified Early Childhood Educator, an Education Assistant for students with exceptionalities, as well as a trained Orton-Gillingham literacy tutor. In addition, I have a BA in Child & Youth Care, and I recently completed training in the Reading Simplified program. I use the skills and knowledge that I have gained from my education and my 20 years of experience to create learning experiences that support the unique needs of all my students.

I will assign review homework which will be to read the passages and words that we read in class. Other homework might be to complete word work or sentence writing that we did not complete in class. This homework is optional, but for best results, learners should review the work to help reinforce the lesson.

I will assess the needs of the learner during the first class, using an informal reading and spelling assessment. I will repeat this assessment every 6-8 weeks.

This class can support all learners. I support unique learning needs by providing a calm learning environment, activities that reflect the child's interests, activities that incorporate movement, and other supports as necessary.
