In this IEW Fix It! Grammar class, students will continue to:
-Identify the eight parts of speech
-Practice using punctuation marks
-Choose the correct homophone or usage when given a choice
-Understand basic rules for capitalization and indentation
Students will need the student book for Fix It! Grammar: The Nose Tree.

Students will need a dictionary (or a way to define assigned terms).
Students must have access to Nearpod.com.
Students will be allowed to annotate on the screen.
Class time will be spent teaching the new vocabulary and concepts. Directions and reading and correcting the first sentence will be done in class. Students will label any remaining sentences as homework.
I will use slides and other resources to encourage interaction between the students and myself. Students may also volunteer to read sentences aloud.
This class will cover the following topics:
Week 1: Homophones and Capitalization with Quotation Marks
Week 2: Who/Which Clause and End Marks with Quotation Marks
*Lesson 18 as homework
Week 3: Contractions
*Lesson 20 as homework
Week 4: Adverb Clauses
*Lesson 22 as homework
Week 5: Numbers
Week 6: Adjectives and Adverbs
Week 7: Prepositions
Week 8: Contractions
Week 9: Adverb Clauses
Week 10: Quotation marks
Week 11: Coordinating Conjunctions
Week 12: Final Review
*Lesson 30 as homework

Students will improve their understanding of the basic parts of speech, proper punctuation, the indentation of paragraphs, and basic capitalization rules. Students will practice good handwriting as they rewrite sentences. Students will learn new vocabulary.
