In this ongoing course, learners will develop their academic English. It is suitable for learners looking to attend university. English for Academic Purposes, or EAP, refers to learning English in order to use it to study another subject. Many universities have pre-sessional EAP courses. Courses concentrate on specific skills the learners will need to benefit from their learning in another language. English for Academic Purposes is a branch of English for Specific Purposes; the latter is a discipline that draws on language, education and students’ specialist areas of interest. EAP is used in educational settings and it is aimed at meeting the academic needs of learners of English for study purposes. EAP provides training in English language skills needed for academic study; they include listening comprehension, fluency development, reading, grammar, writing, and vocabulary. Classes are delivered by Experienced Academic English Teachers and ESL Experts. What will we learn? Week of 6/1/25 - Preparing for Academic Study - Speaking in Seminars Week of 13/1/25 - Preparing for Academic Study - Reading, Making Notes and Summarising Week of 20/1/25 - Preparing for Academic Study - Understanding the Wording of Academic Tasks Week of 27/1/25 - Preparing for Academic Study - Understanding the Introduction of a Lecture Week of 3/2/25 - Academic Focus - Extracting Key Factual Information Week of 10/2/25 - Academic Focus - Writing a Description of Visual Information Week of 17/2/25 - Academic Focus - Recognising Key Information in a Lecture Week of 24/2/25 - Academic Focus - Presenting Visual Information Week of 3/3/25 - Using Evidence - Identifying Main Ideas and Supporting Evidence Week of 10/3/25 - Using Evidence - Analysing and Writing Topic Sentences Week of 17/3/25 - Using Evidence - Understanding the Main Ideas in Lectures Week of 24/3/25 - Using Evidence - Reading a Text to Prepare for a Tutorial Discussion Further classes will be added.
