課堂經歷
All children are eager to be in the kitchen! 🧑🍳 In this safe and simple class we will use basic kitchen implements to create four truly exciting meals. This is a beginner class and absolutely no cooking experience is required. This class has been specifically designed to accommodate the needs and safety concerns of small children. For that reason there are no elements of this class that require any heat; no oven, stove-top, or microwave. The breakfast meal requires a piece of bread that can be toasted in advance by a parent, or can be left untoasted. Additionally, there are no sharp objects used in this class. All elements can be cut or manipulated with spoons and/or plastic (table) knives. Parents can also do any slicing of ingredients in advance, if they wish. All bowls, plates and cutlery should be child-safe.🥣 The flexible nature of this class allows you to choose the best day and time to assist and supervise your preschooler in the kitchen, or the perfect moment to just observe as the culinary talents of your 1st and 2nd grader emerge! Some weeks have several videos and different elements. Feel free to mix-and-match each meal to fit your learner and your schedule, and don't worry if you only make one element on a given week. The goal is to foster a love of learning and some confidence in new skills! At the beginning of each week you will receive class videos that allow your learner to follow along, step-by-step, with me as we create each part of our dish. Watch all the videos in one session, or divide them up throughout the week. You will receive a complete ingredients and tools list for the entire 4 week course before the first day our class begins. Additionally, at the beginning of each week, you will receive a list of the tools and ingredients needed for that specific week. 🛒 Students will also receive custom recipe cards for each element of the weekly meal that they can print and color 🖍 😆 Students are encouraged to share a picture of the meal they create each week and are very welcome to write (or dictate ;) a few sentences about their experience for their fellow classmates. Lots of interaction in the classroom is encouraged and can make the journey even more exciting!🎉 Our four meal selections will use common ingredients that can be easily combined and fashioned with spoons, bowls, cookie cutters and a butter (or plastic) knife. 🍎WEEK 1: Let's Go On A Picnic! 🧺 Pinwheel wraps, fruit salad with herbs, carrots with dill dip 🍎WEEK 2: Parfaits & Animal Faces: A Hearty Breakfast!🐶 Berry parfait and Animal Faces toast 🍎WEEK 3: It's Party Time! Foods for Tea Parties or Themed Celebrations🧸 Small tea sandwiches, banana-strawberry salad, celebration cookies 🍎WEEK 4: The Sweetest Thing: A Crowd-Pleasing Dessert!🍓 A Strawberry Ice Box Cake You will be amazed at how much your learner can accomplish in the kitchen :D Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions **Allergy alert: Bread, graham crackers, yogurt, sour cream, berries, bananas, granola, milk and strawberries are used throughout this course. If your learner has a dairy, fruit or gluten allergy, please feel free to use any substitute you wish. Since there are no actual "cooking" elements to this class, substitutions will not adversely affect the outcome 😊
學習目標
A kitchen provides a rich learning environment!
As we assemble little tea sandwiches, measure yogurt, count berries and layer ingredients, we will be practicing a variety of math skills including shapes, fractions and spatial relationships. Your little chef will become familiar with new terms such as "slice", "spatula", "fold", "whip" and "whisk". They will practice following directions and will be encouraged to pause the video at will in order to develop confidence while moving at their own pace. The print-and-color recipe cards will introduce the concept of following written instructions. Finally, your little learner will experience the joy of sharing their accomplishment with others as they invite family, friends and even fellow-classmates to share each dish with them.

Hello and welcome!
My name is Tina Cowell and I'm an experienced teacher and principal with 20 years in the classroom. I enjoy teaching students of all ages: preschoolers, kindergarten students who are just learning to reading, as well as graduating high school seniors. I have six years of online teaching experience, particularly with preschool and kindergarten-age children, and know how to keep students engaged throughout a virtual class. As a career teacher and elementary school administrator, I believe all students can be engaged and inspired by an open and relaxed approach to reading. My classes are built around student engagement, interaction and comfort, and encourage a love of reading and discovery. We always have a lot of fun! I have experience with learners on the spectrum, as well as those in gifted programs. I am accustomed to and welcome those who are learning English as a second or third language. I am also sensitive to those who are adjusting to the virtual classroom and just wish to listen. Please reach out to me with any questions you may have. I hope you'll join me for every exciting class!
