每週 1-2 小時. Each week the students will be provided with a recording to listen to as well as assigned weekly readings and a discussion question that students will be required to respond to. Students may also complete the questions in the Nearpod lessons while they are watching the recording for the week. This will help to them to reinforce the concepts presented in the lessons. Each student will also be provided with their own individual login to Ck-12, which is a site I will be using to provide additional assignments for the students. This site is designed for students to work at their own pace.評估
Understanding of the weekly concepts is assessed by completion of the discussion questions, in addition to, participation in the Nearpod lessons. In Ck-12 students can access supplemental materials such as readings, videos, and interactives. Quizzes in Ck-12 are offered as a way to gauge student understanding of the optional lessons given in Ck-12. This class is designed to best suit each student individually, therefore, if a student would like more reading materials or other ways to gauge student understanding, then I can provide that. Families can also use all of the recordings, discussions, the project, and reading materials the way that they see works best for their student(s).評分
A grade, progress report, or certificate of completion can be given if requested by the learner or the parent.我們無法翻譯此文,請刷新頁面並再試一次。

Dive into the world of sea turtles, fishes, corals, sharks, and many others in an exploration that will take students into the world full of amazing creatures. In a sequel to part II of marine biology, students will take an in depth look into the deep ocean and explore how the amazing animals of the deep have been able to survive utilizing the extraordinary hydrothermal vents and the bacteria that reside there. Students will also explore the marine biology in lakes, rivers, and ponds and how it differs from the ocean and learn about how different species of animals that exist there. Students will also continue to explore how the effects of our changing environment are impacting population sizes of marine animals and how even a small change in population of one organism can impact an entire food chain. We will look at species of organisms that have become extinct and explore the reasons it happened. Students will also continue to look at impacts of pollution, over fishing, by-catch, and unsustainable practices and see how it has impacted the marine world and how conservation groups are working to protect the organisms affected. This is the third class in the Introduction to Marine Biology series so it is recommended that students take the first two parts before this class, however, it is not required that students take the first two parts before this one. For students looking for a longer marine biology course, I offer a twenty-week class that combines all of the classes in the marine biology series. The twenty-week course is "High School: Welcome to the Wonderful World of Marine Biology Ages 13-18" Students will work with Nearpod, an interactive software program that allows students to participate in discussion boards, answer short quizzes, and watch interactive videos that pertain to course material. There are no pre-requisites for this course, just a love for animals and the environment. Students will also work with CK-12 an interactive learning platform, that allows students to answer practice tests, read articles, and work in interactive textbooks. Assignments will be assigned on this platform weekly. Each student will be provided with their own login information to access their assignments and readings, which the teacher will set up.
學習目標
Students will demonstrate an understanding of freshwater ecosystems and freshwater species through interactives, discussion questions, and readings.
Students will develop an understanding of various aquatic environments, in studying the Hawaiian and Galapagos Islands, learners will explore underwater seamounts and reef systems.

River Ecosystems
In this lesson, students will explore river ecosystems and learn about the different aspects of these freshwater habitats that make them so unique. In learning about the many different components that make up a river ecosystem, from the watershed to tributaries, students will learn about processes such as river erosion and depositions as well as the many factors that contribute to sustainability of these environments. Students will also explore many aquatic freshwater species such as the Boto.

課 2:
Lakes & Ponds
To continue our study of freshwater habitats, students will learn about lake and pond ecosystems, as well as look at the unique interactions that occur among species. Students will learn about the different kinds of lake environments as well as how environmental factors like glaciers or sedimentation can affect the livelihood of the organisms that inhabit them. Students will also learn about the factors that contribute to lake formation like tectonic plates, rivers, and even volcanic eruptions!

The Galapagos Islands
In this lesson, students will dive into the amazing and beautiful Galapagos Islands! We will discuss the unique characteristics of the Galapagos as well as the discovery of this diverse ecosystem. In learning about underwater seamounts and reef systems of the Galapagos, students will gain an understanding of how scientists study ecological conditions and how factors such as ocean currents and temperatures can affect marine environments worldwide.

The Hawaiian Islands
In this lesson, students will explore the fascinating volcanic islands that form the Hawaiian Archipelago. We will discuss the formation and geological aspects of the islands as well as learn about the purpose coral reef systems play in maintaining many diverse species. Students will learn about the effects of pollution and environmental factors on these ecosystems as well as many unique organisms that inhabit these waters such as Spotted Eagle Rays and Hawaiian Monk Seals.

This class utilizes the third-party tools Nearpod and Ck-12 Flexbooks. The students do not need to share any personal information in order to use the material for these particular tools, the teacher generates the login information from her own personal account and shares them with the students.
For the research project, students may need to research information for their projects online. Parental guidance when using the internet is advised.
I take Sundays off to spend with my children, so I may not reply to students' emails until the following Monday if emails are sent past 8 pm EST on Saturday. I may not see these emails until Monday.

My entire life I wanted to explore the ocean and the environment. I have always had a great appreciation for the processes that are not completely understood and the unknowns that have yet to be discovered in the environment. In the beginning of my professional career in research, I worked as a naturalist on a whale watch boat and as a laboratory technician working on environmental clean up projects such as water and land pollution. Then I moved into my dream job of being a research chemist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution in marine & geochemistry where I was able to be in the foundation of the research community and learn from many amazing scientists & researchers who devoted their life to exploring the mysteries of the environment as well as protecting the animals and organisms living in it. For me, working as a student mentor with graduate and post graduate students, made this experience one I will always cherish. As a teacher, I want my students to be excited about what they are learning and with my background in research, I will work extra hard to make sure that if there is an aspect of a topic that a student is interested in, I will make every effort to alter my lessons to include those topics.
