In this one time class, students will learn about The Great Famine of Ireland. Between 1845-1852, Ireland potato crops were infested with a fungus which caused the potatoes to rot, leaving many of the people without food and often times destitute. The famine causing over 1 million people to die and over 2 million to flee Ireland for North America. We will further explore the historical and political consequences for Great Britain (which ruled Ireland until 1912). Students will discuss what they have learned amongst themselves be encourage and to see how one devastating fungus was able to change the course of history for a country.

We will discuss sensitive topics such as starvation and political upset. This will be presented in an informational and unbiased way.

Hello! I am looking forward to teaching with Outschool! My name is Amanda and I was born in Minnesota, but now live in Iowa with my husband and 4 kids. I currently homeschool my 4 children and enjoy every minute of it!
I received my Bachelor's Degree in History/Political Science and English with a literature emphasis. I also hold a Post-Baccalaureate Degree in Secondary Language Arts Education. History and Classical Literature are two of my favorite things and I hope to share that love with my students at Outschool.
I have taught with VIPkid as an online English teacher for almost 2 years now and I have experience teaching little ones as a curriculum planner for preschoolers and substitute teacher for high school students.
