課堂經歷

美國等級 9 - 12
遵循 Teacher-Created 課程
與 Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)對齊
8 lessons//8 Weeks
 Week 1
Lesson 1
Introduction to Matter and Measurement
HS-PS1-2 Topics: States of matter, properties of matter, units and measurement, significant figures, scientific notation. Activities: Exploring states of matter and properties with virtual simulations. Practicing problems with units, significant figures, and scientific notation.
 Week 2
Lesson 2
Atomic Structure
HS-PS1-6, HS-PS1-7 Topics: Atoms, subatomic particles (protons, neutrons, electrons), atomic number, mass number, isotopes, periodic table organization. Activities: Building models of atoms, practicing identifying elements and their location on the periodic table.
 Week 3
Lesson 3
Periodic Trends
HS-PS1-6 Topics: Introduction to the periodic table, groups (families) and periods, trends in atomic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity across the periodic table. Activities: Exploring the organization of the periodic table, analyzing trends (increasing/decreasing) for atomic radius, ionization energy, and electronegativity. Relating these trends to the structure of the atom (number of protons and electrons).
 Week 4
Lesson 4
Chemical Bonding & Intermolecular Forces
HS-PS1-3, HS-PS1-4 Topics: Ionic bonding, covalent bonding, Lewis structures, molecular geometry, intermolecular forces (dipole-dipole, hydrogen bonding, London dispersion forces). Activities: Differentiating between ionic and covalent bonding, drawing Lewis structures for simple molecules, exploring the relationship between bonding and molecular geometry. Investigating intermolecular forces and their impact on properties (melting point, boiling point, etc.).
 Week 5
Lesson 5
Chemical Formulas and Equations
HS-PS1-2 Topics: Chemical formulas, naming ionic and covalent compounds, balancing chemical equations. Activities: Writing chemical formulas from names, naming compounds from formulas, balancing practice equations.
 Week 6
Lesson 6
Chemical Reactions
HS-PS1-5 Topics: Types of chemical reactions (synthesis, decomposition, single-replacement, double-replacement), predicting products of reactions. Activities: Classifying reactions based on observed changes and products, predicting products of simple reactions.
 Week 7
Lesson 7
Introduction to Stoichiometry
HS-PS1-2 Topics: Mole concept, Avogadro's number, mole conversions (grams to moles, moles to particles), limiting reactants. Activities: Calculating moles from grams and vice versa, using mole ratios to determine quantities in reactions.
 Week 8
Lesson 8
Rates of Reactions & Materials Science
HS-PS1-3, HS-PS2-6 Topics: Factors affecting reaction rates (concentration, temperature, surface area), collision theory, the relationship between molecular-level structure and the functioning of materials (e.g., conductivity in metals, flexibility in polymers). Activities: Explaining how factors influence reaction rates, designing experiments to test the effect of variables on reaction rates. Discussions and activities exploring how molecular structure impacts material properties.
Students will develop a strong foundation in the key concepts of chemistry, preparing them for success in their upcoming high school courses. Through engaging activities and practice, students will develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of the scientific method. By exploring the relationships between atoms, molecules, reactions, and materials, students will attain a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the world of chemistry.
Certified educator.
Biology (General, AP, IB), chemistry (General, AP), physics (General) teacher & tutor.
提供的家庭作業
Optional homework sheets will be offered at the end of each week. These sheets will revisit key topics and provide practice problems, reinforcing the lessons learned. These assignments will not be collected or graded. However, answer keys/ solutions will be provided during the following week's class, allowing you to check your work and identify any areas where you might need further clarification.

提供的評估
A short, optional pretest will be offered at the beginning of the course. This allows students to gauge their existing knowledge of chemistry concepts and helps identify areas where they might need additional support. At the end of the course, an optional post-test will be offered. Comparing this test to the pre-test (if completed) allows students to see their personal growth and areas of improvement.
