課堂經歷
This multi-day class is designed to help your child grow into the teenager you hope for them to be. Having a growth mindset is important because it can help you overcome obstacles you may face when learning something new or developing a new skill. Growth mindsets understand the importance of persistence and determination. By changing the way you think, you can change the way you learn. Also, my philosophy is “Same actions equal the same results.” If things are not improving for your child,...
Week 1 - COURAGE Students will learn courageous people do feel fear, but they are able to manage and overcome their fear so that it does not stop them from taking action. Week 2 - GRATITUDE Students will learn that an attitude of gratitude is a regular habit to express appreciation for all different parts of life, no matter how small. Week 3 - RESPECT Students will learn about how their mindset impacts their ability to respect themselves and others. Week 4 - PERSEVERANCE Students will learn perseverance is the ability to keep going when things are tough. Even if students don't achieve or master something right away, they can keep persevering toward their goals. For many students, perseverance can be challenging. Week 5 - ACCOUNTABILITY Students will learn accountability means taking ownership of the decisions and the choices they make, and accepting whatever consequences those choices come with. Week 6 - JEALOUSY Students will learn jealousy is a mishmash of insecurity, anger, and frustration. This can be a difficult concept for younger children to grasp, but with regular mindfulness practice, students can cultivate greater self-awareness and improved social and self-management skills—key components of social-emotional learning. Week 8 - Identity Students will learn to feel that their social identity is an asset rather than a barrier to success in the classroom and that they are welcomed, supported, and valued whatever their background. Week 8 - SELF-TALK Students will learn positive self-talk is a coping mechanism that empowers kids to reframe their thinking, nurtures resilience, and builds self-esteem. As an essential part of social-emotional learning, positive self-talk is about so much more than fostering a positive attitude. Week 9 - GOALS Students will learn a goal is something that you want to do, to be, or to have, and you don't have the resources (time, money, permission, etc.) to get it right at this moment.
Over the 10-plus years of teaching in both a public and private school setting I have learned many things. One thing I have learned was to value the process over the result. Valuing the process over the result can be difficult in a results-driven environment. Helping students build the skills they need to improve is a key element of the growth mindset approach, which I have honed over many years. As a teacher, we learn to teach strategies that reach students and help them learn while celebrating with the students. This reinforces the emphasis on effort and process. It also provides opportunities to share valuable learnings.
