與 State-Specific Standards對齊
We will deepen our knowledge of what science really is and how we can find it around us. We will cover the fundamentals of science such as the science safety rules, the states of matter, the different types of energies, forces and motions, changes to the Earth's surface, the planets, food chains and the flow of energy in food webs, and much more! We will start the lessons with any celebrations we may have (positive notes) and/or what we learned from the previous lesson and end the lesson...
18 lessons//9 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Science Safety RulesThe students will be able to demonstrate safe practices as described in the Texas Safety StandardsLesson 2Constructing Maps and Recording DataThe students will be able to create a map and/or data chart using tools and current technology to organize, examine, and evaluate measured dataWeek 2Lesson 3Contributions of ScientistsThe students will be able to connect grade-level appropriate science concepts with the history of science, science careers, and contributions of scientists.Lesson 4Contributions of Scientists continuedThe students will be able to connect grade- level appropriate science concepts with the history of science, science careers, and contributions of scientists.Week 3Lesson 5States of MatterThe students will be able to describe and classify samples of matter as solids, liquids, and gases.Lesson 6States of Matter continuedThe students will be able to predict, observe, and record changes in the state of matter caused by heating or cooling; and recognize that a mixture is created when two materials are combined such as gravel and sand and metal and plastic paper clips.Week 4Lesson 7Force, Motion, and EnergyThe students will be able to explore different forms of energy, including mechanical, light, sound, and heat/thermal in everyday life.Lesson 8Force, Motion, and Energy continuedThe students will be able to demonstrate how position and motion can be changed by pushing and pulling objects to show work being done such as swings, balls, pulleys, and wagons. The students will also be able to describe magnetism.Week 5Lesson 9Earth and SpaceThe students will be able to record how soils are formed by weathering of rock and the decomposition of plant and animal remains. The students will also be able to describe the properties of soil such as color, texture and their capactiy to retain water.Lesson 10Earth and Space continuedThe students will be able to investigate rapid changes in Earth's surface such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and landslides.Week 6Lesson 11Earth and Space continuedThe students will be able to classify renewable and nonrenewable resources.Lesson 12Earth and Space continuedThe students will be able to record, and compare day-to-day weather changes in different locations at the same time that include air temperature, wind direction, and precipitation. The students will also be able to explain the water cycle and the Sun plays a major role in the cycle.Week 7Lesson 13Earth and Space continuedThe students will be able to identify the planets in Earth's solar system and their position in relation to the Sun. The students will also be able to identify sequences and predict patterns of the appearance of the moon.Lesson 14Organisms and EnvironmentsThe students will be able to describe the physical characteristics of environments and how they support populations and communities within an ecosystem.Week 8Lesson 15Organisms and Environments continuedThe students will be able to identify and describe the flow of energy in a food chain and predict how changes in a food chain affect the ecosystem.Lesson 16Organisms and Environments continuedThe students will be able to describe environmental changes such as floods and droughts where some organisms thrive and others perish or move to new locations.Week 9Lesson 17Organisms and Environments continuedThe students will be able to explain how structures and functions of plants and animals allow them to survive in a particular environment. The students will also be able to describe traits and behaviors that offsprings inherit from their parents.Lesson 18Organisms and Environments continuedThe students will be able to investigate and compare how animals and plants undergo a series of orderly changes in their diverse life cycles such as frogs and beetles.
- The learning goal is for students to become aware of factors that affect their daily lives and to demonstrate scientific logic and reasoning.

Homework
頻率: 包括回饋: 包括細節: Homwork will consist of written essays/summaries, journal enteries, and projects.
Journal, pencil, acess to YouTube (may need an account), objects that can be found at home such as a round ball, soil, water, anything magnetic, rocks (various sizes), and thermometer (if possible).
除了 Outschool 教室外,本課程也使用:
YouTube will be used to demonstrate a topic such as food chains and characteristics of organisms such as animals. An account may need to be created to be able to use the app.
We will use YouTube for lessons such as discussions about organisms (plants, animals), and animal characteristics.
