希臘神話-特洛伊之路

Class will cover the lives of Achilles, Odysseus, and the other individuals involved in the Trojan War. We will also talk about the mythology contained in The Iliad and The Odyssey including the explanation for the cause of the war in The Judgment of Paris and Odysseus’ journey home as described in The Odyssey. 

 Each class begins with questions that are designed to encourage critical thinking and prepare/focus learners minds for the content of the day. Learners are encouraged to ask questions and participate in the discussion throughout the class. By looking at ancient art we will attempt to obtain an understanding of how the ancient people imagined these stories.   At the end of class students are prompted again with questions intended for them to think critically about the topic. 

No knowledge of Ancient Greek Mythology is required prior to taking the class but students with some background knowledge may also benefit from seeing how the different gods are related as well as what it meant for the views of the people who lived in ancient Greece. The class does build upon previous lessons but given the scope of the topic late enrollments are welcome to drive interest and critical thinking. Each week will contain new and exciting content.

Week of January 19th - Review the background of the Trojan War
Week of January 26th - The story of Paris, Helen, and the start of the war
Week of February 2 - Introduction to Achilles, his role in the war, and his conflict with Agamemnon
