Class Description: The Great Gatsby - A Four-Week Novel Study

Step into the world of the Jazz Age with F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby. This four-week English Language Arts course for 11th-grade students dives deep into the themes, characters, and historical context of one of America’s most iconic novels. Through critical analysis, creative writing, and engaging activities, students will explore the complexities of the American Dream, social class dynamics, and the pursuit of identity.

What You Will Learn:

Analyze Fitzgerald’s narrative techniques, including symbolism, imagery, and point of view.

Examine the cultural and historical influences of the 1920s and their impact on the novel.

Develop literary analysis and critical thinking skills through structured reading and annotation.

Create a thematic narrative essay reflecting personal experiences and connections to the text.

What to Expect:
Each week will focus on specific chapters of The Great Gatsby, supplemented with historical context and writing workshops. Students will complete daily reading assignments, participate in reflective exit tickets, and engage in discussions about the novel’s themes and symbols. Weekly quizzes will assess comprehension, while writing activities build toward a final narrative essay inspired by the novel.

Who Should Enroll:
This course is ideal for students who love exploring literature, enjoy creative and analytical writing, and are eager to dive into the vibrant world of the Roaring Twenties. No prior knowledge of The Great Gatsby is required, but a willingness to read thoughtfully and contribute ideas is essential.

Final Project:
