Let's learn about famous women artists throughout history and how they contributed to the art world! This class is part lecture, part activity. It's an art history class and activity class! On the first day of the week, I will present the students with a presentation of the artist/art movement in the form of a Power Point presentation. I will talk about the life of the artist then show photos of the artist and their work. I will talk about what inspired the artist, their technique, their...
Students will learn about the lives of many women artists as well as different types of art, art styles, art movements and art techniques!
Learners may bring any medium that they choose to create art! Examples include: acrylic paint, oil pastels, watercolors, markers, etc. There will be some lessons where I will ask in advance that the learners bring specific materials such as old magazines, scissors and glue for collage.
Some topics will be addressed during the presentation such as feminism, ageism, racism, addiction, etc. Any artwork that may contain nudity will be covered. I will also ask some weeks to bring scissors to class for collage-making.
The extensive research for this class comes from a variety of sources such as, but not limited to: - Artists' websites (such as: Faithringgold.com, Deborahrobertsart.com, Fridakahlo.org, Karawalkerstudio.com, Okeeffemuseum.org, etc.); - Youtube videos of interviews of the artist and their family (some of which are included in the presentations); - My own travel to different cities of the exhibits of the artists (including New York City, Philadelphia, West Chester, PA, Washington, DC); - Tate.org.uk; - Smithsonian (americanart.si.edu); - Museum of Modern Art (Moma.org); - Metropolitan Museum of Art (MetMuseum.org); - Philadelphia Museum of Art (Philamuseum.org); - Wikipedia.org; - Britannica.com; - National Gallery of Art (Nga.gov); - Artnet.com; - Blackpast.org; - Blackhistory.net; - Civilrightsteaching.org; - Instagram.
